Our Estimation Methodology & Math

PoolCalc is a professional pool estimation portal designed to help homeowners, architects, and developers forecast construction budgets. Our calculators use standard civil engineering formulas and regional contractor rate indexes.

Algorithmic Calculations

Calculations are divided into three physical phases (Excavation, Structural Shotcrete Shell, and Mechanical Assembly) which are then processed against regional cost coefficients:

  • Excavation Volume: Computed with a standard 1.5 ft (0.5 m) safety over-dig perimeter clearance on all sides to allow pipe placements, sub-drainage gravel layers, and formwork boards.
  • Concrete Volume: Based on pouring a standard residential concrete shell thickness of 6 inches (15 cm) across the floor slab and retaining walls.
  • Water Capacity: Multiplies surface footprint area against uniform or sloped average depths, converting cubic capacity directly to standard US Gallons (7.48052 Gal/cu ft) or Liters (1000 L/m³).

Cost Index Database Sourcing

The pricing metrics stored inside data.js are updated semi-annually based on market surveys of construction materials and specialized contractor labor rates.

We currently track cost indexes for India, USA, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, UAE, and Singapore. The system dynamically applies regional VAT/GST brackets (e.g., 18% GST in India, 20% VAT in the UK, 8.25% average state sales tax in the USA) to ensure accurate localized pricing models.

All calculations provided by PoolCalc are educational reference estimates. Actual local site conditions, bedrock issues, access restrictions, contractor supply chains, and municipal permit delays will impact final project bids. We recommend consulting a licensed, local civil structural engineer before signing construction contracts.
